Travel Feet, Protection & comfort
Travelers face Against Many Contaminants, what you don't know can hurt you.
“Many people today are going through airport security in their bare feet or socks,” said Kim Laney, President of Terry Lane Products, distributor of Travel Feet, Disposable Foot Covers. “Not only are they spreading germs, but people are picking up others’ fungi, viruses, dirt, parasites, diseases and various toxins. These bacteria can travel through the mucus membranes, skin and compromised areas of our body to cause harm to our health. They can go virtually undetected until you experience symptoms, by then it is too late.
Millions of people walk through the Airport security in airports every year with their shoes off, some carrying and some picking up dirt, bacteria, fungi or disease. With an increase in international travelers, it increases the wide range of diseases that can be found. One popular airport was host to a mold called trichophyston, which causes ringworm and favus, a disease of the scalp. Farvus is usually found in third world or poor countries.
"If there are individuals walking barefoot or with socks, they will transmit to another person walking over the same spot," lower leg disease expert Dr. Daniel Lee said. "I do have concerns over the organisms found," Lee said. "Staphylococcus which was found on one airport floor causes skin infections that go deep through the layers and people who are sensitive can pick it up." Lee suggests wearing medical booties through security.
What you don't know can hurt you! Precautions are strongly advised! The Transportation Security Administration is there to keep us safe not healthy. That has to be our own responsibility. A few airports have began to provide foot covers for passengers, but not nearly enough to be confident that you will not be caught walking barefoot on a nasty floor.
There have been several companies and products launched to provide low cost solutions. MyTravelFeet.com, is a site completely devoted to offering TSA approved low cost disposable foot covering to wear through airport security, protecting travelers from harmful bacteria and disease. Unlike socks or paper foot covers, My Travel Feet disposable foot covers are made of Polyethylene which will provide a barrier of protection from dirt, bacteria, fungi and mold. There is no longer an excuse to tip toe through airport security in your bare feet, as if that’s going to help.
“Not only are Travel Feet perfect in an airport setting,” Laney says, “but people are using them in hotels, airplanes and pool areas. They offer the protection and comfort for people who want to remove their shoes.”
